THE COLD WAR
Soviet Union wanted to spread communism to Eastern Europe whereas The united States opposed of that, this resulted in the cold war. The war was called "cold" because it was not heated with military use.
In 1947 the U.S president Truman initiated the policy of containment in his Truman doctrine (America's policy to deter the spread of communism). The main objective of the containment policy was to help nations that were aught to be threatened by communism. In 1948 Stalin, the leaded of Soviet Union victoriously succeeded in turning eastern Europe to communism, Europe suffered a division resulting in a communist eastern Europe and a non communist west. Britains prime minister Winston Churchill described this as an "iron curtain" in Europe.
In late 1940's the cold war also spreading in Asia, leading to the division of Korea, north was communist whereas south was non communist, By this time China had become a complete communist country.
